due often to the lack of today’s durable finishes & thus the work to keep them in good shape… asphalt-tile and linoleum coverings were often go-to staples; covering those wood floors  through the mid-1950s. After that time carpeting and vinyl became the flooring of choice. … the advent of plywood and particle board further changed many flooring options.

Tile floors also have a long history, especially where durability is a big factor. They ARE higher on the difficulty scale but when done correctly and in good taste will hold up a long- LONG time!! Take your time and do the proper preparations.

Wood floors have once again become extremely popular, and a lot of older homes are seeing their wood floors revived and restored. Many homes have some potentially beautiful wood floors that are well hidden with carpet and a host of other flooring. It does involve some elbow grease but restoring them is doable and extremely rewarding if it’s done right! I do cringe when I see jobs where somebody seriously cut corners! If you’re going to go through all the work… use good quality materials so your result will not only look nice, but be durable and last a long, long time!
