These are the most common big 3 items that cause folks to panic while visualizing huge $$$$ flying out the window.

Actually– the huge plus in all of these areas has been the improvements in materials used. Cast iron pipes and fittings, individual hot and cold electrical wires without a ground, and crazy heat and AC adaptations in old houses used to be standard fare. The guys that did these trades earned their keep!
Although materials are simpler these days the code technicalities and inspection requirements have almost made up for it! Don’t get me wrong, codes have their place but unfortunately their ability to generate significant revenues has certainly jumped into the equation.
If you feel lost when dealing with product options… you might simply spend some time in the hardware or big box stores just browsing some of the departments—costs you nothing to look …. In our ‘supplies’ section we talk about the value this can provide.
All that said, if you take the time to do your homework, get a mentor if you need to (that’s what we attempt to help provide), or at least a professional who is willing to show and explain what’s being done—- you can take charge of your home. If you do your homework you will no longer be intimidated and will know when a pro may be needed. Overall in the process you will become empowered and guess what, save some dollars in the process
I had a mentor who was self-employed & very skilled in all areas A-Z. It would frustrate him greatly when folks paid these guys 2 or three times what he was getting because they were looked upon as being ‘SPECIAL’ simply because they were HVAC Plumbing or Electrical guys, regardless of how ethical or qualified they really were. In fairness they aren’t all that way…. But if you can find a reputable all around home project guy or gal, they can handle the vast majority of issues…. I suggest you pay them well & keep their contact info handy….. you’ll be glad you did.
Remember we are pullin for ya!
